This giant karst group is a giant underground water reservoir that supplies clean water in East Kutai Regency.

The area of ​​the Sangkuliran-Mangkabawa karst expanse is 362,706.11 hectares, divided into two administrative regions, namely East Kutai Regency 171,925.57 hectares and Berau Regency 190,780.54 hectares.

Apart from that, the government has also designated a protected area of ​​550,000 hectares, this area has economic, cultural, social and scientific value.
